Consider Salt Water Fish Tanks For Something A Little Different
Salt water fish tanks should be considered if you are looking for something a little bit different from the norm. There are many different choices to make when it comes to getting the right one. If you plan on only housing fish you should be aware that it will take a lot longer to have the aquarium set up and properly acclimatized than if you were to chose a reef tank or one that combines living rocks with fish. You will have to take extra care of these creatures as you will be 100% responsible for maintaining the standard of the water using artificial means.
A reef tank is often mistaken for salt water fish tanks but they are slightly different. In a reef tank the main focus is the replication of the coral reef. This is the most expensive form of salt water aquarium due in part to the natural beauty of the coral and also the fact that there are now very strict rules on the movement of coral. The Great Barrier Reef and other places of natural beauty are in danger of being destroyed partly by people collecting coral for onward sale to salt water aquarium enthusiasts.
If you decide to go for a combination of living rocks and fish you will find that the microorganisms in the rocks will help to refresh the water and keep nitrate levels under control. You will still need to be vigilant and check the levels in the water taking supplementary measures when required.
Regardless of which salt water fish tanks you choose to buy you must read up on this subject area unless you are an expert in raising this particular type of fish. Freshwater and marine fish may share similar characteristics but there are important differences in their needs and requirements.
